Under the general supervision of the Protection Coordinator and the direct supervision of the MHPSS Officer, and technical support of the Protection Officer of the country Office, the successful candidate will participate in the implementation and monitoring of mental health and psychosocial support activities within the framework of IOM Algier’s assistance and protection programs for migrants. 

Core Functions / Responsibilities: 
Based mainly in transit centers for migrants, the psychologist case manager will:   

a. Assist to identify migrants in need of MHPSS assistance. 

b. In coordination with the Protection Officer and the MHPSS Officer, assist the Protection Unit in the care of migrants requiring specific mental health follow-up, in compliance with IOM MHPSS case management procedures and protection principles.  

c. Facilitate individual interviews and counseling; and assist to assess the psychosocial needs of migrants accommodated in the centers as part of assistance for voluntary return. 

d. Facilitate focus groups, psycho-education groups and discussion groups on topics of interest to migrants; carry-on and facilitate artistic/therapeutic activities (art therapy, tree of life, etc.). 

e. Participate in the implementation of diverse psychosocial activities adapted to the needs, ages and abilities of migrants and communities. 

f. Facilitate the follow-up of individual cases within the centers, in particular by supporting the provision of individual mental health support, restoring family ties, ensuring that specific needs are covered, and ensuring safety. 

g. Participate in the referral of migrants to the appropriate structures and ensure follow-up. 

h. Regularly update monitoring and reporting documents. 
  
i. Provide regular reports on MHPSS activities. 

j.   Carry out any other task that may be assigned in the course of work. 

Required Qualifications and Experience: 

Education: 
• High School diploma and at least four (4) years of relevant professional experience, in particular, assistance to migrants is valued Or  
• Bachelor's degree in clinical psychology, or other branch of psychology and at least two (2) years' professional experience in the field of mental health and psychosocial support; in particular, assistance to migrants is valued. 
 

Experience: 
• Experience in the field of Protection and MHPSS and case management. 
• Interest in and knowledge of migration, human trafficking and migrant smuggling. 
• Training in PSEA (prevention of sexual exploitation and abuse), in caring for 
survivors of gender- based violence (GBV) or in psychotherapy is a plus.  
• Professional experience in a UN agency also an advantage. 

Languages: 
• Fluency in English and French is required. 
• Working knowledge of Arabic is an advantage.
