Under the overall supervision of the Protection Coordinator, and the direct supervision of the Protection Officer, the successful candidate will assist in the implementation of protection-related activities of IOM Algeria. 

Core Functions / Responsibilities: 
The successful candidate will have the following duties and responsibilities: 
1. Support the PXD team in the delivery of assistance, based on informed consent of beneficiaries, and in line with the principles of assistance of victims of human trafficking and of protection in humanitarian action. 

2. Assist the Protection Officer to conduct interviews with unaccompanied and separated children in accordance with international best practice and in a child appropriate and gender sensitive manner. 

3. Assist to organize best interest determination panels. Draft best interest assessments and support the organization with the relevant partners. 

4. Assess assistance needs of beneficiaries and report them to the Protection Officer. 

5. Prepare case management reports for each beneficiary on a regular basis. 

6. Ensure appropriate data entry for assessed, identified or assisted beneficiaries. 

7. Assist in the organization and delivery of events on victim identification, referral and assistance as well as on different protection topics.  

8. Support liaison with relevant stakeholders in order to establish referral pathways and mechanisms for a range of protection cases. 

9. Contribute to the team’s periodic as well as ad hoc meetings for projects. 

10. Ensure full adherence to the principles of the Do No Harm Framework throughout all facets of work. 

11. Document and maintain the confidentiality of all personal information of project beneficiaries to ensure programme integrity and compliance to IOM standards of conduct and IOM data protection rules. 

12. Report on own activities in an efficient, clear and comprehensive manner.  

13. Effectively follow-up on deadlines, commitments, action points and deliverables. 

14. Perform such other duties as may be assigned.  

 Required Qualifications and Experience: 

Education: 
• High School Degree/Certificate from an accredited academic institution with four years of relevant in the above field or  
• University degree in Social work, Political or Social Sciences, Human Rights, International Affairs, Migration Studies or a related field from an accredited academic institution with two years of relevant professional experience. 

Experience: 
• Experience in one or more of these key protection areas: child protection; counter trafficking, GBV, or general protection. 
• Demonstrated experience in case management in one of the key protection areas and referrals.  
• Excellent interpersonal and listening skills. 
• Excellent writing and communication skills. 
• Personal commitment, efficiency, flexibility, drive for results; capacity to work effectively and harmoniously within a team of colleagues from varied cultures and professional backgrounds. 
• Computer knowledge, including of the use of Microsoft Office. 
• Experience with international organizations or international NGOs is an advantage. 

Languages: 
• Fluency in English and French is required. 
• Working knowledge of Arabic is an advantage.

In all cases, a prerequisite for taking up the position is legal residency in the country of the duty station, or in the neighbouring country located within commuting distance, and work permit, as applicable.
